Robert B. Hayling, hailed as the “father” of St. Augustine’s civil rights movement, died Sunday at his home in Broward County, according to family members.
Dr. Hayling, 86, led demonstrations and endured violence in St. Augustine during the 1960s, where his actions were among those that pressured elected officials to sign the Voting Rights Act.house.
